Bad sector is a sector on a computer’s disk drive or flash memory that cannot be used due to permanent damage, such as physical damage to the disk surface. These sectors are marked by the OS and they are remapped to the free sectors. So any unreadable data in those sectors are lost permanently.
To prevent this data loss the bad sectors are detected by some programs and they are mapped logically to a different physical location of the hard disk . This makes the bad sector not to be used by any program, thus preventing data loss.
